It is hype cycle season again, and we are immensely proud to share that Humanitec has appeared in 9 hype cycles across the platform engineering universe. This is a clear recognition, not just of our contributions to the industry, but of how rapidly platform engineering is growing and advancing.
With Infrastructure Platform Engineering being on several Hype Cycles and Platform Engineering having its own Hype Cycle for the first time, our footprint this year in Gartner’s Hype Cycles is a spectacular achievement.
Here's a look at where Humanitec stands out and is mentioned as a sample vendor:
Hype Cycle for Platform Engineering, 2024Â
Hype Cycle for Cloud Computing, 2024Â Â
Hype Cycle for Site Reliability Engineering, 2024
Hype Cycle for Infrastructure Platforms, 2024 ‍
Hype Cycle for Infrastructure and Operations, 2024
Hype Cycle for Operation Models, 2024Â
Hype Cycle for Data Center Infrastructure Technologies, 2024Â
Hype Cycle for Container Technology, 2024Â
Humanitec's widespread recognition across these multiple Gartner Hype Cycles in 2024 underscores its pivotal role in advancing technology across several key areas.
What is the Gartner Hype Cycle?
The Gartner Hype Cycle is a graphical representation developed by the research and advisory firm Gartner, used to depict the maturity, adoption, and social application of specific technologies. It provides a framework for understanding the lifecycle stages a technology goes through from its initial conception to mainstream adoption and beyond. The cycle typically includes five key phases:
- Innovation Trigger: A breakthrough, public demonstration, or product launch generates significant interest and early press coverage. At this stage, there is often no functional product or proven commercial viability.
- Peak of Inflated Expectations: Early publicity produces several success stories—often accompanied by scores of failures. Some companies take action; many do not.
- Trough of Disillusionment: Interest wanes as experiments and implementations fail to deliver. Producers of the technology shake out or fail. Investments continue only if the surviving providers improve their products to the satisfaction of early adopters.
- Slope of Enlightenment: More instances of how technology can benefit the enterprise start to crystallize and become more widely understood. Second- and third-generation products appear from technology providers. More enterprises fund pilots; conservative companies remain cautious.
- Plateau of Productivity: Mainstream adoption starts to take off. Criteria for assessing provider viability are more clearly defined. The technology's broad market applicability and relevance are clearly paying off.
We are honored by this recognition and will continue to drive innovation and efficiency, helping organizations navigate and thrive in an increasingly complex technological landscape.
