Hey,
In my last and final newsletter for this year I want to say “thank you” and convey exactly one message: get ready to go all in on Platform Engineering in 2023, this will be career defining for you. The sheer numbers are just obvious: from 7,000 PEs at the first PlatformCon this year to 65,000 views on the Youtube channel, 8,000 of you in the Slack and over 350,000 impressions per quarter on the category site. They're a symptom of the fact that the world is realizing that Internal Developer Platforms have a transformative effect on the productivity (and sanity) of engineering teams. Gartner correctly assumes that by 2026, 80% of the world's enterprises will have built these platforms.
We will continue to work very hard to make this transition successful. By a.) enabling and coordinating the community (and inviting you to participate). We will significantly invest in making sure we can serve you on your educational journey.
And b.) by supplying the toolbelt to help you build reliable, scalable and especially dynamic Internal Developer Platforms. We do this with the OSS project Score which in just 6 weeks has crossed 2,000 stars and over 1k forks on Github (go check out the repo, this is pretty crazy!). With our drivers that help you wire up your platform with your existing infrastructure and IaC setup, and of course with the Platform Orchestrator which dynamically generates config files depending on the context and deploys them.
Our goal is simple: if you’re using the combination of tools recommended by us, you get the security of well tested platforms and toolchains and you leverage the power of the community around them.
Lots of great things are coming in Q1 alone, we will invest heavily into reference architectures and best practice setups for dynamic Internal Developer Platforms. I will keep you up to date with all the latest developments.
For now I want to thank you for being a part of this journey with us. For your participation and all the great moments we had together as a community. Serving you is what makes us get up every single day. We wish you and your family happy holidays and a Happy New Year.
