Hi there,
I’m usually super careful how I talk about competition or other vendors in general. The job we’re all doing is hard enough, I don’t need to make it artificially harder for anybody. This has reached its limits with the case of Broadcom.
Their strategy of announcing they will only focus on their top 600 organizations, means 299,400 are left to wonder: what now? The approach of simply increasing license costs by up to 1000%, taking away free coffee and water for the teams, offending partners… the list is long. I understand the pressure that Broadcom managers are operating under but these are not the business practices that we should spend our valuable time on mother earth on.
In the last 10 days VMware customers with contract volumes north of 300M have reached out to us for help. So Thoughtworks, Bechtle and Humanitec are teaming up to help VMware customers to escape the iron fist of Broadcom. With our modular design for Internal Developer Platforms. To understand exactly how we do this in a simple and tested way, you can read the blog I've written, or download the full whitepaper.
While Thoughtworks and Bechtle are the perfect partners to help you build the platform and migrate you over, Humanitec's orchestration capabilities allow you to enter the era of platform engineering.
Unless you are 100% convinced that you are among the top 600 VMware customers, then you need reach out to us and start planning your escape. As this is only the beginning.
Our strategy is simple: keep the virtualization and compute layer for now but introduce an abstraction on top. Once your workloads and developers are on the "layer above the clouds" you can either migrate away from VMware products entirely or start gradually replacing with Red Hat, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure or any other provider.
And the best: this reduced lock-in also means you can now use best in class tools. Gone are the days of half-baked Tanzu products. Yay.
Let the orchestration games begin, may the best product win.
