Hey there,
PlatformCon 2025 has officially launched.
I’ve been spending a lot of time recently contemplating on how we can grow together as a community. How can we advance how platform engineering is done? How can we learn from each other and our collective mistakes? How can we help thought leaders in this space get their voices heard and their experiences shared? But - and I find this particularly important - how can we help Platform Engineers be proud of their guild and feel a strong sense of belonging?
Over the years we’ve done a ton in working on aligning wording (think Internal Developer Platform, portals, and all those nice words) and a structured approach (such as the MVP framework). We have tried our best to regularly bring all of you together in roundtable discussions and give practitioners a stage across dozens of meetup groups across the world and our weekly webinars. We’ve started to provide certifications and are adding training offerings soon.
With all this, how do you take this to the next level? Topping PlatformCon 2024 isn’t easy, the stats are truly impressive:
Over 35k people watched the event during the week, with almost 100,000 more watching PlatformCon content in the month to follow. At the same time, 300 or so platform engineers attended the first live day in London.
But how can we make 2025 even more meaningful? That was the guiding question as we prepared to launch for 2025; And here’s what we’re going to do:
- As always: high quality content. That’s what this community is all about and we’ll keep it up. We’ll take great care selecting fitting topics and speakers.
- More hands-on work. The workshops last year were awesome and we need more of them. We actually want to build stuff and learn from each other's building.
- More personal and live! We are investing 6 times more into live days with several tracks. One in Europe (London) and one in the US (New York). At these events, you will be able to meet all the experts, practitioners, and fellow platform engineers. Even though we have a few hundred places for each of those live days, space is limited. If you want to join I would book this as fast as possible. I went to London in 2024 and that was just such an incredible experience.
2025 will be our most exciting year yet. Bigger yet more personal. I’m really looking forward to meeting you during PlatformCon. If flights permit I’ll try to be in London and New York myself!
To all of you, fellow platform engineers: happy platforming and see you at PC25!
Cheers
Kaspar
