Our journey towards delivering a product that’s intuitive and user-centric is neverending. And it’s driven by the valuable feedback and experiences of users just like you. We're always listening and adapting, so today, we're thrilled to reveal our redesigned Platform Orchestrator user interface!Â
A new, simplified, more intuitive interface Â
Several months of rigorous user testing and feedback taught us what new users thought: that the Platform Orchestrator learning curve was steeper than it should be. And that its design needed some fundamental rethinking.Â
Information hierarchyÂ
We reorganized the information structure and layout, so there’s now a logical flow and intuitive navigation.
This redesign prioritizes easier understanding of dependencies between components, so new users (developers) spend less time orienting themselves and more time executing.
Context-specific viewsÂ
We understand that mixing information from different contexts like Applications, Environments, Deployments, and Workloads in one screen can be overwhelming. It also significantly limits the possibilities of expanding what is shown for each of them.
Our new design separates these entities, so now you only see what's relevant to the task at hand.Â
This change also gave us additional space we could fill with even more important details.Â
Accessibility and scalabilityÂ
We replaced most elements with table-like components. They’re now easier to look through and accessible with a keyboard. This also enables future additions, like filtering and sorting, to further improve the Platform Orchestrator’s user experience when handling large quantities of data.
Next stop: Increasing information availability
This redesign gave us the chance to fix a bunch of recurring issues that many new users were getting stuck on, such as looking for their application’s URL in the DNS resource in a draft instead of a running deployment. At the same time, by separating contexts into individual subpages, we’ve actually made the more experienced users' lives harder. For them, getting the same data and state overview requires more clicking around. That’s why, in the next iteration, we’ll be looking into improving the more advanced user flows within the Platform Orchestrator, and making the most important information more easily available. With just a couple more improvements, we promise a seamless, efficient, and altogether more enjoyable experience.
